Down Under - Day 1

We arrived at 6:30am to an overcast, misty morning. I thought the flight felt about five hours shorter than it was, Brian assured me that it didn't. We picked up our rental car, with Brian taking the wheel and the risks of driving on the left side of the road, and traveled to our first Airbnb property - The Grey Lynn Garden Retreat.

Our first lodging choice is this one-room sleep-out with a brand-new modern bathroom. It's in the garden behind the owner's home. It's very cute, cozy and perfect for our first four days.
After dropping off our luggage and meeting our host, Mick, we walked two minutes to Cafe O. After flying from Saturday to Monday, or whatever it was with the time zones, a mocha, two farm-fresh eggs and sourdough toast had me feeling back to normal. Yum!
In an effort to get on a new schedule, we kept moving after breakfast. We walked from our neighborhood to downtown Auckland. While we were there, and since the place was dead on a Monday morning, we went up in the Sky Tower. I was a little scared at first but it was only half as tall as Shanghai Tower, which I "braved" in April. While we were up there, we tried two local Coca Cola drinks - a ginger beer and an L & P. The latter of which Brian said could only be likened to Pledge.
After a 30-minute nap (got to stay on schedule), we took showers and planned what we are going to do tomorrow. We strolled around the grocery store -- one of my favorite things to do abroad -- and  headed out for dinner at Prego. We sat outside and enjoyed a delicious, Italian meal. The loaf of bread (pictured) was heavenly and my cucumber/tomato/feta/parsley salad was the perfect compliment to the cheesy, garlic polenta.
Thanks for checking in!
